Mongol Rally 2013 · 13 July 2013
Hello!
The four of us have decided to enter two cars into the 2013 Mongol Rally, leaving next July. For those that don't know much about it, in a nut-shell, it is driving highly unsuitable vehicles (less than 1.2 litres) roughly 10,000 miles to Mongolia (a third of the way around the globe). It is an unsupported rally, which means that there is no set route, and when we cross the start line, that is it...on our own until Mongolia.
Only after signing the waivers did the map come out, and along those 10,000 miles lurk mountains, unstable nations, tourist starved boarder guards, a distinct lack of roads and the ominously famous goats' testicle soup.
You may ask why. You may not ask, you may simply mutter "nice" and google "mongol rally 2014", but I am going to tell you why anyway.
We are aiming to raise some fairly substantial finds for a charity that is well known to at least two members of the team; the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance. The Air Ambulance is a wonderful organisation, saving lives on a daily basis in our rural communities, yet completely dependent on the support of local people. It is a vital resource that without our support, will cease to be.
We are running a range of fundraising events throughout the year (if you would like to keep up to date, please watch our facebook page "dorsetmongolrally"), and if you would like to give something extra, we would be hugely grateful.
Many, many thanks for your support.
